For the first time in A-League history there will be a Melbourne Derby in the Grand Final as City and Victory square off for the silverware on Saturday.

Read on below for our 2024/25 A-League Grand Final best bet.

Melbourne City vs Melbourne Victory

  • Date: Saturday May 31
  • Venue: AAMI Park
  • Kick Off: 7.40pm AEST

It promises to be a cracking contest as Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory collide in a blockbuster A-League Grand Final on Saturday night at AAMI Park.

City overcame injuries to key players throughout the season to advance into the Grand Final for the fifth time in the last six seasons, while Victory have progressed into back-to-back GFs, doing so despite Patrick Kisnorbo suddenly stepping down mid-season as Arthur Diles stepped up into his first ever senior coaching role.

Victory defied the odds in the semi-finals, coming back from 1-0 down in the first leg to conquer minor premiers Auckland FC 2-1 on aggregate, with Zinedine Machach and Bruno Fornaroli getting on the scoresheet. City meanwhile cruised past the challenge of Western United in their semi-final duel, with the damage done in a 3-0 opening leg win before a 1-1 draw this past weekend.

I like to follow the value when it comes to the A-League - there's not much separating a lot of these teams and truth be told, any one of about seven teams could have easily made the Grand Final. Victory are the $3.20 outsiders and will be determined to go one step further after their heartbreaking late defeat to the Mariners last term. City have lost three of their last four Grand Finals and could be in for another disappointing night.
