Everything You Need to Know About Australia at the T20 World Cup 2026
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is almost here, and Australia have revealed a squad built to handle the unique challenges of playing in Sri Lanka and India.
Australia’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2026 reflects a clear plan: embrace spin, back experienced all-rounders, and trust depth across conditions.
If the injury clouds clear, this is a squad capable of making another deep World Cup run.
Led by Mitchell Marsh, the provisional 15-man group leans heavily into spin, flexibility and experience, as Australia look to recapture the title they won back in 2021.
The tournament gets underway on February 7, with Australia’s first match scheduled for February 11.
Australia’s T20 World Cup 2026 Squad
Here’s the full Australian squad selected for the tournament:
Mitchell Marsh (c), Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Cameron Green, Nathan Ellis, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis (wk), Matthew Kuhnemann, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa
Several players are set to make their World Cup debuts, including Bartlett, Kuhnemann, Connolly and Matthew Short.
Fitness Concerns & Squad Flexibility
Australia’s selection comes with a few fitness question marks.
Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Tim David are all recovering from injuries, but selectors remain confident they’ll be available when the tournament begins. Under ICC rules, Australia can still make changes to the squad up until January 31 if required.
That leaves the door open for fringe players to come into contention should injuries persist.
Why Spin Will Be Key
Australia have clearly planned for turning tracks.
Sri Lanka-based T20 matches see spin bowlers take a higher share of wickets and concede fewer runs per over than pace. That explains the inclusion of multiple slow-bowling options, with Zampa leading the attack and Kuhnemann, Connolly, Maxwell and Short all providing support.
Interestingly, Australia have opted not to include a left-arm fast bowler in the squad.
Australia Group Stage Fixtures
